What You Can Check

How It Works

DrugCheck draws from two official data sources:

When you search, our system queries an Elasticsearch database indexed with both DPD and FDA data and returns the most relevant results. You can search by generic name (e.g. ibuprofen) or brand name (e.g. Advil). The app runs on AWS EC2 for fast, reliable performance.

Who Built This

Lilibeth Tolentino built DrugCheck as a school project for a Big Data Infrastructure course — and kept going. What started as a course assignment became a live, publicly accessible health tool used by people across Canada and beyond.

The goal was always the same: make drug safety information easy to find for everyone — patients, caregivers, and families managing multiple medications — without requiring a login, a subscription, or any technical knowledge.

DrugCheck is designed with responsible AI in mind: it only answers from official Health Canada and FDA records, refuses to invent information when no data is found, and flags dangerous combinations clearly. It knows its limits — and says so.

The site is available in English and French — use the EN/FR toggle in the navigation bar to switch languages.
